Miroir d'eau

The world's largest reflecting pool, a vast granite platform laid in 2006 before the Place de la Bourse, where a film of water two centimetres deep turns the facade into a perfect upside-down mirror. Every few minutes a magical mist rises from the stone to delight the crowds.

Über diesen Ort

Created in 2006 as the centrepiece of Bordeaux's great riverside renewal, the Miroir d'eau is the largest reflecting pool in the world, covering around 3,450 square metres of polished granite along the Garonne quays. A film of water just two centimetres deep transforms the stone into a flawless mirror that reflects the golden facade of the Place de la Bourse, while roughly every fifteen minutes a thick artificial mist rises from hidden jets, enveloping visitors in a dreamlike fog before the water returns. Conceived by landscape designer Michel Corajoud with fountain maker Jean-Max Llorca and architect Pierre Gangnet, its machinery is concealed in a former underground warehouse so that nothing disturbs the clean sweep of the surface. In 2007 the surrounding Port of the Moon was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and this modern marvel has become the most photographed spot in the whole city.
