Sobre este lugar
At number thirty on the rue des Marchands stands the house where Frederic Auguste Bartholdi was born on the second of August, 1834. The sculptor grew up in this modest Colmar home before going on to create some of the most monumental works of his age, above all the Statue of Liberty, inaugurated in New York harbour in 1886, and the Lion of Belfort. Donated to the city in 1907, the house is now the Musee Bartholdi, where the ground floor is devoted to models of his statues and monuments, including early studies for Liberty herself. In the courtyard stands his great bronze Les Grands Soutiens du Monde of 1902, three figures straining to hold up the globe.
