Sobre este lugar
Commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte and opened in 1804 as the first metal bridge in Paris, the Pont des Arts was conceived as a garden suspended over the Seine, complete with benches and potted trees. It links the Louvre on the Right Bank with the domed Institut de France on the Left Bank, binding the worlds of art and letters. Battered repeatedly by war and river traffic, it was rebuilt in steel between 1981 and 1984, with seven arches in place of the original nine. From the late 2000s couples famously clipped love locks to its railings, until roughly a million padlocks, some forty five tons of metal, threatened to topple the structure and were removed in 2015. Today it remains a beloved haunt of artists, picnickers, and dreamers.
