À propos de ce lieu
The Oberstadt is the historic core of Bregenz, a walled medieval upper town perched above the lake on cobbled lanes that have barely changed in centuries. Around 1250 the Counts of Montfort laid out the town and raised its defensive wall, punctuated by two main gates, the Lower Gate and the Upper Gate, that controlled who entered the citadel. Long before that, the Romans built a town called Brigantium on the slopes below, making this one of the oldest continuously settled places in the region. Tucked among the ramparts stands the Deuringschlössle, a former noble residence with medieval origins that was rebuilt around 1660 by Hans Karl von Deuring and today serves as an intimate hotel and restaurant. Walking through the gate is like stepping across a threshold of time, where Roman, medieval, and modern Bregenz quietly overlap.
