Blood on the Bar Strip - Rudolfskai

Rudolfskai is Salzburg's riverside party mile - and in the small hours of 4 December 2016 a brawl outside its bars left a 24-year-old man with a knife wound to the stomach, while a crowd of a hundred onlookers blocked the ambulance and the attackers vanished into the night.

À propos de ce lieu

By day the Rudolfskai is a handsome stretch of quay along the Salzach, the Hohensalzburg fortress glowing above it; by night it is the city's densest run of bars and clubs. At around half past three on Sunday 4 December 2016 it turned violent. Inside one of the bars a 16-year-old Armenian asylum seeker quarrelled with an intoxicated Turkish man; when the Turk's companions stepped in, the teenager called for reinforcements and the two groups spilled out onto the quay. In the melee a 24-year-old Turkish man was stabbed in the upper abdomen and seriously injured, and the attackers fled by car. Some hundred onlookers mobbed the scene, blocking the street back to the Staatsbrucke and delaying the emergency doctor. Police later identified five suspects - four Armenians aged 16 to 27 and a 28-year-old Serbian - but released them all: the fatal knife-thrust could not be pinned on any single hand, and no one was ever convicted.
