Stabbing on Große Freiheit - Beatles-Platz
On 10 November 2024, a quarrel inside a disco on Große Freiheit, the Beatles' old Hamburg street, escalated into a knife attack: a 23-year-old woman stabbed her 25-year-old rival several times and cut a woman who stepped in, and in January 2026 she was jailed for four years and ten months for attempted manslaughter.

At the mouth of Große Freiheit, the black, record-shaped Beatles-Platz celebrates the street where the Beatles learned their trade in 1960 and 1962, playing the Indra, the Kaiserkeller at number 36 and the legendary Star-Club at number 39. The name itself goes back to 1601, when the Count of Schauenburg granted this corner of Altona freedoms of trade and worship that Lutheran Hamburg denied. But Große Freiheit is still one of St. Pauli's busiest party streets, and its club doors have seen plenty of nights go wrong. In the early hours of Sunday, 10 November 2024, a relationship quarrel between two young women and their friends got them ejected from a disco on this street. In the entrance, the 23-year-old hit her 25-year-old rival in the face and tore out some of her hair; a short time later, about 200 metres up the street at the corner of Simon-von-Utrecht-Straße, she pulled a folding knife and stabbed her several times in the arms, head and neck. A woman who stepped in to help was cut on the arm. The victim was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and survived, while the attacker was arrested that morning. In January 2026 the Hamburg Regional Court sentenced her to four years and ten months for attempted manslaughter and two counts of dangerous bodily harm, a verdict all the more striking because this whole quarter has been a weapons ban zone since 2007.
