À propos de ce lieu
Rising on the eastern edge of the Alter Garten, the Mecklenburg State Theatre completes the grand ceremonial square that links the castle, the museum and the city. The present house was designed by architect Georg Daniel and built between 1883 and 1886, replacing an earlier court theatre that had burned to the ground. Its restrained neo-Renaissance exterior conceals an opulent neo-Baroque interior, an intimate three-tier auditorium clad in crimson velvet and crowned by a vast ceiling chandelier. As the principal stage of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, it hosts opera, ballet, drama and concerts, and stands today as part of the Schwerin Residence Ensemble recognised for its extraordinary architectural unity.
