À propos de ce lieu
The Barrio de Santa Cruz is the oldest and most charming neighbourhood in Alicante, a picturesque tangle of narrow, steep and often stepped lanes climbing the lower slopes of Monte Benacantil, the hill crowned by the castle. Here the houses are dazzlingly whitewashed, their facades and window grilles hung with colourful pots of geraniums and other flowers, their doorways painted in bright blues and greens, giving the whole quarter the feel of a traditional Andalusian or island village transplanted into the city. It is a place to wander slowly and get happily lost, discovering tiny squares, hidden shrines and sudden views out over the rooftops to the sea. At its heart stands the little Ermita de Santa Cruz, a hermitage, and the quarter comes vividly to life during Holy Week and its own local festivals, when the lanes are decorated and processions wind through them.
