Puerto de San Sebastián
The city's picturesque working fishing harbour, tucked beneath Monte Urgull, where colourful boats bob beside a huddle of old fishermen's houses now filled with seafood restaurants and bars.
À propos de ce lieu
Tucked into a sheltered corner beneath the green flank of Monte Urgull, at the western end of the old town, the fishing port of San Sebastián is one of its most charming and atmospheric spots. Though the city is famous today for tourism and gastronomy, it has deep roots as a fishing and seafaring community, and this small harbour, protected by its stone sea wall, is still a working port where fishing boats land their catch. The quayside and the narrow lanes behind it are lined with the brightly painted houses of the old fishing quarter, many now home to excellent seafood restaurants, humble cider houses and bars where you can eat the freshest fish and shellfish imaginable. The harbour is also home to the city's aquarium and naval museum, and from its sea wall there are lovely views back across the bay.
