À propos de ce lieu
Hidden within the dense fabric of the old town, the Plaça Redona, the Round Square, is one of Valencia's most unusual and charming corners. As its name suggests, it is almost perfectly circular, an enclosed ring of balconied houses pierced by just a few narrow entrances, with a fountain at its centre. Laid out in the mid-nineteenth century on the site of an old fish and meat market, its ground floor has traditionally been filled with small shops selling lace, embroidery, fabrics, thread, ceramics and souvenirs, giving it an old-fashioned, intimate atmosphere. Locals affectionately nicknamed it the clotxina, after the local word for a mussel, because of its rounded shape. A careful restoration in 2012 refreshed the square and its stalls, and today it is a delightful place to pause, shop for traditional crafts and feel the gentler rhythm of the old city.
