Paseo de los Tristes

A broad riverside promenade with cafe terraces, famous for its spectacular view straight up to the Alhambra, dramatically floodlit at night, and named for the funeral processions that once passed this way.

Su questo luogo

The Paseo de los Tristes, officially the Paseo del Padre Manjón, is the broad, open promenade where the Carrera del Darro ends, spreading along the riverbank beneath the towering walls of the Alhambra. Its popular name, the Walk of the Sad Ones, comes from the funeral corteges that once passed along it on their way to the cemetery higher up the valley. Today it is anything but sad, lined with lively cafes and restaurants whose terraces spill toward the river. Its great glory is the view: from here you look straight up the wooded hillside to the massive red ramparts and towers of the Alhambra, a sight that is spectacular by day and utterly magical by night, when the palace is floodlit and seems to float golden above the dark trees. It is the perfect place to end a walk through Granada, gazing up at the jewel that crowns the city.
