Di cosa parla la passeggiata?

Welcome to Cologne, a city famous for its soaring Gothic cathedral, its Rhine promenade and its legendary carnival spirit. But behind the postcard views lies a darker chronicle: forged masterpieces, a hostage drama, failed bombs and a daring night raid on the cathedral treasury, all played out on squares that thousands of people cross every day. Our journey begins on the Neumarkt, outside the auction house where a single forged painting fooled the art world.

Exposed in March 2002, the scandal ended with a prison term for the incinerator's manager and suspended sentences for waste magnate Hellmut Trienekens and former city director Klaus Heugel.

The Cathedral Treasury Heist - Domschatzkammer

On the night of 1 to 2 November 1975, three men climbed the cathedral scaffolding, slipped down a ventilation shaft into the 'optimally secured' treasury in the north transept and escaped with monstrances, a pax tablet and twelve bishops' crosses. Tips from Cologne's underworld brought them down, but the golden monstrance of 1657 had already been melted.
