Plaza de Azcárraga

A tranquil, leafy square in the heart of the old town, shaded by tall magnolia trees and centred on an elegant old fountain, one of the most charming corners of A Coruña.

Über diesen Ort

The Plaza de Azcárraga, or Praza do Xeneral Azcárraga in Galician, is one of the most charming and peaceful squares in the old town of A Coruña. Enclosed by handsome old buildings, many with the city's characteristic glazed galleries, it is shaded by tall, venerable magnolia trees that fill the square with greenery and, in season, with large fragrant blooms. At its centre stands an elegant old fountain, topped by a figure, around which the square gathers. Quiet and dignified, a world away from the bustle of the Marina, the square is a favourite spot for locals to sit on a bench in the shade, for children to play, and for visitors to pause and soak up the gentle, old-fashioned atmosphere of the Ciudad Vieja, the old town. It is a lovely place simply to rest for a few moments on a walk through the historic heart of the city.
