The Parque de Doña Casilda Iturrizar, usually just called Doña Casilda, is the largest and most beloved park in central Bilbao, a green lung laid out in 1907 in the romantic English landscape style. Its winding paths lead through lawns and groves of trees from around the world, past flower beds, pergolas, fountains and a graceful iron bandstand, to a large ornamental pond famous for its ducks, swans and geese, which gives the park its affectionate nickname, the park of the ducks. Donated to the city by a wealthy widow after whom it is named, it has long been the favourite spot for Bilbaínos to stroll, relax and let their children play. The nearby Museo de Bellas Artes, Bilbao's excellent fine arts museum, sits on the park's edge, making this a fittingly gentle and cultured place to end a walk through the city.
