Església de Santa Eulàlia

One of the oldest and tallest Gothic churches in Palma, at the heart of the old town, closely tied to the Christian conquest of the island and its medieval kings.

Über diesen Ort

The Església de Santa Eulàlia is one of the oldest churches in Palma, founded in the thirteenth century, soon after the Christian conquest, and built in a soaring Catalan Gothic style with a notably tall, light-filled nave. It stands in a lively square at the very heart of the old town and has always been closely bound up with the history of the city: it was here, according to tradition, that King James the First attended a mass of thanksgiving after taking the island, and the church was long associated with the kings of Mallorca. Its tall bell tower is a landmark of the old town skyline, and its shadowy interior, with slender columns rising to a high vault and a richly gilded Baroque altarpiece, is a fine example of the island's Gothic churches. The square outside is a pleasant spot ringed with cafes.
