Über diesen Ort
The Plaça de la Reina, the Queen's Square, is one of the great meeting points of old Valencia, a long open space stretching from the main front of the cathedral toward the shopping streets of the centre. Lined with orange trees, cafes and ice-cream parlours, it is overlooked by the cathedral's famous octagonal bell tower, the Micalet, which rises like an exclamation mark above the rooftops. For many years the square was clogged with traffic, but a major redesign completed in the early 2020s pedestrianised it and replanted it with trees, transforming it into a calm, sunny gathering place. From here radiate the main tourist streets of the old town, and it is the perfect spot to sit with a horchata, the local tiger-nut drink, and admire the cathedral before stepping inside.
