Sobre este lugar
As you climb the main street from the aqueduct into the old town, you cannot miss the Casa de los Picos, the House of the Points, one of the most distinctive buildings in Segovia. This fifteenth-century noble mansion has a facade entirely covered in hundreds of carved granite blocks, each cut into a projecting diamond-point or pyramid shape, so that the whole wall bristles like a jewel or a fortress of spikes. The effect is extraordinary and quite unlike anything else in the city. There is a local tale that the house was given this bold new facade to disguise an earlier, shameful name, for the street was once associated with executed criminals and their severed heads. Whatever the truth, the diamond-points proved a striking statement of status. Today the building houses an art school and exhibition space, and its spiky facade remains one of the most photographed in Segovia.
