Sobre este lugar
The Iglesia de San Esteban is another of Segovia's wealth of Romanesque churches, dating from the thirteenth century, and like San Martín it has a graceful covered portico of carved arches. But its glory, and the reason it is so celebrated, is its bell tower. Rising in six soaring storeys of elegant arched windows, it is widely regarded as one of the tallest and most beautiful Romanesque towers in all of Spain, sometimes called the queen of Romanesque towers. It dominates this corner of the old town and is a landmark across the city. The church stands in the quiet streets of the upper old town, near the former bishop's palace, in an area long associated with the clergy and, nearby, the old Jewish quarter. Elegant and serene, the tower of San Esteban is a perfect expression of the golden, church-filled character of old Segovia.
