Sobre este lugar
The Plaça de l'Ajuntament is the modern heart of Valencia, a broad, triangular square framed by two of the city's grandest early-twentieth-century buildings: the ornate Ajuntament, or city hall, and the magnificent Correos, the central post office, with its soaring stained-glass dome. A great fountain plays at the centre, and a permanent flower market adds colour along one side. For most of the year it is simply a busy civic space, but each March it becomes the roaring epicentre of the Fallas, Valencia's extraordinary festival of fire. Every day at two in the afternoon during the festival, enormous crowds pack the square for the mascletà, a thunderous, rhythmic explosion of firecrackers designed to be felt in the chest rather than merely heard, a uniquely Valencian celebration of noise and gunpowder.
