À propos de ce lieu
Rising over the Oberstadt, St. Martin's Tower began as a modest medieval structure and grew, through the centuries, into the city's most beloved landmark. Between 1599 and 1601 the master builder Benedetto Prato raised the tower and crowned it with an enormous copper onion dome, often described as the largest Baroque onion dome in Central Europe and the very first Baroque building on Lake Constance. Inside, St. Martin's Chapel preserves layers of frescoes dating back to the 14th century, while the upper floors now hold a city museum and offer sweeping views over the rooftops, the lake, and the surrounding mountains. The tower is both a monument and a vantage point, a place where the history of Bregenz feels close enough to touch.
