À propos de ce lieu
Stretching some 13,200 square meters between pastel baroque facades, the Hauptplatz has been the beating heart of Linz since the city was laid out along the Danube trade routes in the 13th century. Its colourful merchant houses and the arcaded Old Town Hall, the municipal seat since 1513, frame a vast rectangle that still hosts markets, festivals and the daily rhythm of the city. At its centre rises the Trinity Column, a twenty metre pillar of gleaming Salzburg marble completed in 1723, erected by the guilds, the emperor and the people of Linz in gratitude for surviving war, fire and plague. From this square the historic Pöstlingbergbahn tram climbs to the pilgrimage church on the hill above.
