Plaza de las Flores

A lively, colourful square in the heart of the old town, famous for its permanent flower stalls and overlooked by a grand early-twentieth-century post office building.

À propos de ce lieu

The Plaza de las Flores, officially the Plaza de Topete, is one of the most charming and lively squares in Cádiz, known to everyone by its popular name, the Square of the Flowers, because of the permanent flower stalls that have traded here for generations, filling the space with colour and scent. It sits at the heart of the old town, right beside the central market, and the two together form the bustling commercial core of everyday Cádiz. The square is overlooked by the grand facade of the Correos, the main post office, a handsome building from the early twentieth century decorated with tiles. Ringed by cafes and tapas bars whose terraces spill across the paving, and always busy with locals shopping, chatting and meeting friends, the Plaza de las Flores is the warm, beating heart of the old city, a wonderful place to feel its everyday rhythm.
