Calleja de las Flores

A tiny, dazzlingly white cul-de-sac hung with blue flowerpots full of geraniums, framing a perfect view of the Mezquita's bell tower, the most photographed little street in Córdoba.

À propos de ce lieu

The Calleja de las Flores, the Little Street of Flowers, is the most famous and most photographed alley in Córdoba, a perfect miniature of the city's charm. Barely wide enough for two people, this short whitewashed cul-de-sac just north of the Mezquita is lined with walls hung with blue ceramic flowerpots spilling over with red geraniums and other blooms. It opens at its end into a tiny square with a little fountain, and from there, if you turn and look back, the alley perfectly frames a view of the Mezquita's tall bell tower rising above the rooftops, a composition so lovely it has become one of the defining images of the city. The alley captures the Cordoban genius for the patio, the flower-filled courtyard, a tradition so important that the city's patios are celebrated each May in a famous festival and recognised by UNESCO.
