À propos de ce lieu
The Capilla de San Bartolomé is one of Córdoba's most beautiful hidden treasures, a small funerary chapel built around the year 1400, on the border between the Jewish quarter and the old university. It is a masterpiece of the Mudéjar style, the art developed by Muslim craftsmen working under Christian rule. Though modest in size, its interior is breathtaking: the lower walls are faced with dazzling geometric tilework in blue, green and white, above which rise walls and vaults covered in the most delicate and intricate carved plaster, interlacing patterns of extraordinary refinement, crowned with ribbed vaulting. Easy to miss and often quiet, the chapel offers a concentrated jewel-box experience of the same Mudéjar artistry seen in grander monuments, and is reached through a small courtyard that is itself a perfect Cordoban patio.
