À propos de ce lieu
The Plaza de la Merced is one of the most characterful squares in Málaga, a large, open, tree-shaded space ringed with cafes, bars and historic buildings, long a hub of the city's social and cultural life. At its centre rises a tall stone obelisk, a monument to General Torrijos and his companions, liberal rebels executed in 1831, who are buried beneath it. But the square's greatest fame is as the birthplace of Pablo Picasso. The house on one corner, where he was born in 1881 and spent his earliest years, is now the Casa Natal, a museum and foundation dedicated to the artist. A life-sized bronze statue of Picasso sits on a bench in the square, sketchbook in hand, a favourite photo spot. Buzzing day and night, the square perfectly captures the easy, sociable spirit of Málaga.
