À propos de ce lieu
The Plaza de Toros de Ronda, completed in 1785 and owned by the Real Maestranza de Caballería, a noble equestrian order, is one of the oldest, largest and most beautiful bullrings in Spain, and a place of near-sacred importance in the history of the bullfight. It is an elegant structure of golden stone, a perfect circle ringed by two tiers of arcaded galleries supported on slender columns, with one of the widest sand arenas in the country. Ronda is revered as a cradle of modern bullfighting, for it was here that the legendary Pedro Romero and his family, in the eighteenth century, helped establish the rules and style of fighting bulls on foot rather than on horseback, laying the foundations of the corrida as it is known today. The ring houses a museum of bullfighting, and whatever one feels about the spectacle itself, the building is a monument of great elegance and historical weight.
