Su questo luogo
The Bowling Green is the elegant rectangle of green that stretches between the Kurhaus and the boulevard of Wilhelmstrasse, flanked on either side by the graceful colonnades of the spa house and the theatre. Its curious English name comes from the game of bowls, played on manicured lawns in sixteenth-century England, and it perfectly captures the anglophile taste of the nineteenth-century spa guests who once promenaded here. Twin three-tiered cascade fountains designed by Theodor Goetz in 1856 anchor the lawn along its central axis, their basins catching the light and softening the formal geometry with the sound of falling water. Restored in 2006 above a newly built underground car park and replanted with double rows of plane trees, the Bowling Green today doubles as the town's most prestigious event stage, where summer concerts and festivals draw crowds beneath the Kurhaus dome.
