Casa de Sefarad

An intimate museum in an old house in the Jewish quarter, dedicated to the history, music, traditions and daily life of Sepharad, the Jews of medieval Spain.

Su questo luogo

The Casa de Sefarad, the House of Sepharad, is a small private museum occupying a restored traditional house in the heart of the Judería, connected historically to the nearby synagogue. Sefarad is the Hebrew name for the Iberian Peninsula, and the Jews descended from those who lived here are known to this day as Sephardim. The museum is dedicated to recovering and celebrating their rich culture: its rooms explore the history of the Jews of Córdoba and Spain, their domestic life, their festivals and rituals, the role of women, their music, and the great intellectual tradition that produced thinkers like Maimonides. It also remembers the tragedy of the expulsion of 1492 and the Inquisition. Warm and personal rather than grand, it gives a human face to the vanished community whose streets you are walking, and often hosts concerts of Sephardic music.
