Su questo luogo
Designed by the royal architect Jacques Gabriel between 1735 and 1738 and completed by his son Ange-Jacques Gabriel, the Place de la Bourse was Bordeaux's first great opening toward the river. The old medieval ramparts were torn down to create an elegant horseshoe of symmetrical facades facing the Garonne, framed by the former stock exchange and the old customs house. An equestrian statue of King Louis the Fifteenth once stood at its center until it was destroyed during the Revolution, and in 1869 the fountain of the Three Graces took its place. Reflected in the Miroir d'eau opposite, the square is one of the most photographed sights in France and a centerpiece of the UNESCO World Heritage listing.
