The Battering-Ram BMW - Panská Street
Before dawn on 8 January 2018, four men in yellow work gloves reversed a stolen BMW fitted with a battering ram into a jeweller's grille on Panská Street, crawled under the jammed mesh and escaped with watches worth about €888,000 in under four minutes; no arrest was ever made public.
Su questo luogo
Panská, the old Street of the Lords, runs west from the corner where the bronze Čumil peers out of his manhole, with Main Square, the Roland Fountain and the Old Town Hall only a hundred metres behind it. In the small hours of Monday 8 January 2018 this genteel pedestrian street became the scene of Bratislava's most brazen heist. Around four in the morning a gang sawed through a metal bollard with an angle grinder and drove into the pedestrian zone from Rybné námestie. At about a quarter to five they reversed a dark grey BMW 530d, stolen the day before from a car dealer and fitted with a battering ram, into the iron grille of a jeweller's on this street. The grille jammed in the wall, so four men crawled under it, smashed the showcases and grabbed stands of luxury watches worth about €888,000. They were inside for ninety seconds and gone in under four minutes, long before the security patrol arrived ten minutes after the alarm. Their yellow work gloves and striped market bags became the defining image of a case that, as far as public reports go, has never been solved.
