About this place
The Kunsthaus Bregenz, known simply as the KUB, is a masterpiece of modern architecture designed by the Swiss architect Peter Zumthor and opened in 1997. From the outside it appears as a quiet, luminous cube clad entirely in finely etched glass shingles that shimmer with the changing light of the sky and the lake. Inside, Zumthor created a radical concept of daylight, drawing natural light down through the glass skin and a hidden ceiling system so that the galleries glow with a soft, even brightness. There is no permanent collection here; instead the KUB hosts a celebrated programme of contemporary exhibitions, inviting world-renowned artists to respond to its unique spaces. The building has won international acclaim and is frequently cited among the most admired works of contemporary architecture in Europe.
