Murinsel

A floating steel island in the Mur river shaped like a giant shell. It serves as a pedestrian bridge, a café, and a unique viewing platform over the rushing water.

About this place

The Murinsel is an artificial floating island made of steel and glass that sits in the middle of the Mur river. Shaped like a half-open shell, it was designed by artist Vito Acconci to connect the riverbanks and bring people closer to the water. It houses an open-air amphitheater and a futuristic café. Originally a temporary project for 2003, it has become a permanent and beloved landmark of the city.
