About this place
Schmiedgasse, translating to 'Blacksmiths' Alley,' was historically a noisy, soot covered street where the city's metalworkers forged their wares. Today, its character has transformed dramatically; it is now a charming street filled with upscale cafes, boutiques, and government offices. This elegant transformation, however, once hid a terrifying secret. In the 1990s, this area became a haunt for Jack Unterweger, the notorious 'prison poet' and serial killer. He used his deceptive charm and newfound celebrity status to mingle with Graz's high society and media elite in these very cafes, hiding in plain sight while secretly hunting for victims elsewhere in the city.
