About this place
Graz's Stadtpark, a massive green space, was created in the 19th century on the former military glacis, or defensive walls, that once encircled the city. Today, it is a beautiful, English-style public park filled with centuries-old trees and tranquil lawns. However, in recent years, this idyllic setting has been marred by a darker reality. The dense bushes and secluded paths became the ultimate hotspot for rival drug gangs and violent turf wars, leading to a surge in knife attacks and street robberies. In response to the escalating violence, the city was forced to designate the park a 'Schutzzone' (Protection Zone). Elite units of the EGS (Task Force for Combating Street Crime) routinely launch massive, sweeping night raids, deploying K9 units to sniff out hidden drug bunkers and reclaim this vital green lung for the city.
