Mozart Residence (Wohnhaus)

The spacious apartment where the Mozart family lived from 1773. It was a hub of social activity and the place where the young composer wrote many of his Salzburg symphonies.

About this place

Located on Makartplatz, this building is known as the Tanzmeisterhaus or Dance Master's House. The Mozart family lived here for fourteen years in a spacious first floor apartment. The museum inside focuses on the women of the family, Nannerl and Maria Anna, and displays the family's original fortepiano. It was here that the young Mozart composed his five violin concertos. The building was heavily damaged in World War II but was rebuilt to preserve this chapter of music history.
