Café Frauenhuber

Vienna's oldest coffeehouse, where both Mozart and Beethoven performed table music for dining guests. A tangible link to the everyday life of the composers.

About this place

Located on Himmelpfortgasse, Café Frauenhuber holds the title of Vienna's oldest coffeehouse still in operation. In the late 18th century, it was an upscale restaurant and concert venue known as 'Jahn's.' It is the only location in Vienna where both Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven are confirmed to have performed as pianists for guests. The atmosphere retains a Biedermeier charm that transports visitors back to the era of the salons.
