About this place
Situated elegantly on the Ringstrasse, directly next to the Burgtheater, Café Landtmann was Freud's preferred sanctuary for relaxation and observation. Unlike the boisterous atmosphere of literary cafés like Central, Landtmann offered the quiet, plush dignity of the upper-middle class. Freud would come here daily to read the foreign newspapers, keeping up with world events while silently analyzing the behaviors, neuroses, and repressions of the politicians, actors, and wealthy industrialists who frequented the establishment.
