Kaskadenbrunnen

A brilliant feat of Baroque engineering that uses the natural incline of the hill to power a rushing, multi-tiered water cascade.

About this place

The Kaskadenbrunnen represents the mechanical heartbeat of the Belvedere. In an era before electric pumps, Dominique Girard utilized gravity and the natural slope of the hill to create water pressure. This rushing cascade acts as the lifeblood of the estate, connecting the upper and lower halves with dynamic movement and sound.

Key facts

  • 5 steps — Make up the cascading tiers of the fountain
  • 12 statues — Surround the basin depicting nymphs and water deities
