About this place
The St. Michael's Church is one of the oldest in Vienna, dating back to the 13th century. On December 10, 1791, just five days after Mozart's death, a memorial service was held here organized by his friend and librettist Emanuel Schikaneder. It was during this service that the completed movements of Mozart's final masterpiece, the Requiem, were performed for the very first time. The acoustics of the church remain largely unchanged since that day.
