Zoco Municipal

A craft market set in a traditional Andalusian courtyard in the Jewish quarter, where local artisans sell leather, silver, ceramics and jewellery, keeping Córdoba's ancient craft traditions alive.

About this place

The Zoco Municipal, whose name comes from the Arabic souk, is a craft market occupying a traditional Andalusian house with a columned courtyard in the heart of the Judería, just steps from the synagogue. Here, local artisans have their workshops and stalls, selling and often making on the spot the traditional crafts for which Córdoba has been famous since Moorish times: finely worked leather, including the embossed and painted guadamecí; delicate filigree silver jewellery; ceramics; and other handicrafts. The galleried courtyard, cool and shaded, is a lovely example of the Cordoban patio, and in the evenings it sometimes hosts flamenco performances. It offers a chance to buy a genuine, locally made souvenir directly from its maker, and to feel the continuity of craft traditions stretching back over a thousand years.
