Alameda del Tajo

An elegant nineteenth-century park promenade perched on the very edge of the cliff, with balconies projecting out over a sheer drop and sweeping views across the Serranía mountains.

About this place

The Alameda del Tajo is a graceful tree-lined park and promenade laid out in the early nineteenth century along the edge of the plateau on which Ronda stands. Its chief glory is its position, right on the brink of a sheer cliff, so that at the far end of its shady avenues, balconies and viewing platforms project out over a dizzying drop, giving vertigo-inducing views out across the valley and the rugged mountains of the Serranía de Ronda beyond. Shaded by tall trees and lined with benches, it is a favourite place for Rondeños to stroll, and a wonderful spot to appreciate the astonishing natural setting of the town, high above the surrounding countryside. Beside it runs a clifftop promenade past grand old hotels that once hosted the romantic travellers, writers and artists drawn to Ronda's drama, with the balconies offering some of the finest views in the town.
