About this place
The Palacio de Mondragón is one of the most beautiful buildings in the old town of Ronda, an elegant palace that blends Moorish and Renaissance elements. According to tradition it was built on the site of, or incorporates, a palace of the Moorish rulers of Ronda, and after the Christian conquest it was taken over and remodelled, reputedly even hosting the Catholic Monarchs. Behind its handsome facade lie a series of lovely courtyards, including one with delicate Mudéjar tilework, horseshoe arches and a fountain, evoking the Islamic past, and a garden terrace with sweeping views out over the gorge and the valley beyond. Today the palace houses the Museo de Ronda, the city museum, which tells the story of the town and its region from prehistoric times onward. Serene and elegant, with its blend of cultures and its glorious views, it is a highlight of La Ciudad.
