About this place
The Cathédrale Sainte-Réparate is the mother church of Nice and the grandest building in the old town, standing on the ochre-painted Place Rossetti. Its main body was built between 1650 and 1685 and consecrated in 1699, modeled on the great Baroque churches of Rome with a cross-shaped nave and lavish side chapels. Its most famous feature is the dome rising around thirty five meters above the transept, glittering with glazed tiles in the Genoese style. The cathedral honors Sainte Réparate, a young martyr from the Holy Land whose body, according to legend, was carried to the shore of Nice by a boat steered by angels, giving the Baie des Anges its name.
