About this place
Built in the late 19th century, the Rathaus is both a working government center and a symbol of Vienna’s pride. Seven courtyards lie behind its lace-like stone exterior. Crowning the central tower is the "Rathausmann," an iron knight statue that has watched over countless festivals and gatherings on the plaza below. By day the building impresses with its Gothic Revival detail; by night its illuminated arcades and tower create a fairytale silhouette against the sky.
