About this place
Located inside the Hofburg Palace complex, the Spanish Riding School is the only institution in the world that has practiced classical equitation in the Renaissance tradition of the 'haute école' without interruption for over 450 years. The 'Spanish' in its name refers to the robust Spanish horses that originally formed the breed. Today, the world-famous white Lipizzaner stallions perform incredibly difficult, gravity-defying leaps and routines to classical music inside the Winter Riding School—a breathtaking, sunlight-filled arena complete with stucco pillars and massive crystal chandeliers.
