Hôtel de Vogüé

A richly decorated mansion from the early seventeenth century on Rue de la Chouette, famous for its colourful glazed tile roof and its exquisite arcaded Renaissance courtyard.

About this place

The Hotel de Vogue is one of the most precious private mansions in old Dijon. It grew out of three neighbouring houses bought up from 1589 and rebuilt by Etienne Bouhier, a magistrate and counsellor to the Parliament of Burgundy and a great lover of art. The year 1614 is carved on the monumental fireplace of its painted guard room, and the whole ensemble was raised in the following years around a courtyard in the elegant between court and garden style. A majestic porch studded with carved bosses opens onto a sculpted portico inspired by Renaissance Italy, while overhead the roof glitters with the geometric glazed tiles that are the signature of Burgundy. In 1766 a marriage carried the house to the counts of Vogue, whose name it still bears, and today it belongs to the City of Dijon.
