What's the walk about?

Welcome to Linz, Austria's underrated third city, where baroque squares, a mighty river, and cutting-edge technology share the same compact old town. On this walk we begin at the towering Mariendom, the largest church in the country, then climb through the old town to Linz Castle for sweeping Danube views and wind back down past the Renaissance Landhaus. Quiet lanes lead us to the Old Cathedral where Anton Bruckner once played the organ, and on to the grand Hauptplatz beneath its marble Trinity Column. From there we follow the river past the glowing Lentos Art Museum and cross the storied Nibelungenbrücke to finish at the futuristic Ars Electronica Center on the far bank, where Linz's bold modern identity comes fully into view. Comfortable shoes and an open mind are all you need.
