Linz Highlights
Baroque squares, Danube views and Ars Electronica in one loop
What's the walk about?
Welcome to Linz, Austria's underrated third city, where baroque squares, a mighty river, and cutting-edge technology share the same compact old town. On this walking loop we begin on the grand Hauptplatz beneath its marble Trinity Column, then step into the Old Cathedral where Anton Bruckner once played the organ and gaze up at the soaring Mariendom, the largest church in the country. We'll admire the Renaissance Landhaus and climb to Linz Castle for sweeping Danube views before riding the historic Pöstlingbergbahn up to the pilgrimage church crowning the city. Back by the water, the futuristic Ars Electronica Center and the glowing Lentos Art Museum reveal Linz's bold modern identity, and the Nibelungenbrücke carries us back across the Danube to close the loop. Comfortable shoes and an open mind are all you need.
