Dark History — Munich, Capital of the Movement
A sober walk of remembrance through the city where National Socialism was born.
What's the walk about?
Welcome to a sober walk of remembrance through the city the Nazis once called the "Capital of the Movement." Munich is where National Socialism was born, organised, and celebrated, and on this roughly two-hour route through the centre we will confront that history honestly and respectfully. We begin at Königsplatz, the square the regime paved as a cult and parade ground, and move past the documentation centre on the site of the "Braunes Haus" to Odeonsplatz, where the 1923 putsch was stopped at the Feldherrnhalle. From the quiet bronze line of the Viscardigasse to the beer halls where the party first took the stage, and finally to the Old Town Hall and Marienplatz, we trace how a movement seized a city. This is a journey of memory, not entertainment. Please walk these sites with the gravity they deserve.
