Nuremberg and the Third Reich: The Nazi Party Rally Grounds
A sober walk through the world's largest surviving ensemble of Nazi architecture — and how a city confronts its past.
What's the walk about?
Welcome to a sober and necessary walk through the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds on the shores of Nuremberg's Dutzendteich lake. This is the largest surviving ensemble of Nazi architecture in the world, the stage Hitler chose for his choreographed rallies and the place that gave its name to the 1935 Race Laws. Together we will trace the unfinished Congress Hall, the vast Zeppelin Field and its grandstand, the two-kilometre granite parade road, and the quiet lakes around them. But this is not a walk about glorifying stone. It is about understanding how propaganda was built, how a city later confronted its darkest chapter, and how remembrance is kept alive today. Please walk with care and respect.
