Potsdam Highlights: Palaces, Gardens & the Bridge of Spies
From Frederick the Great's vineyard palace to the Cold War's most famous bridge.
What's the walk about?
Welcome to Potsdam, the graceful garden city where Prussian kings built their dreams in stone and the Cold War drew one of its most dramatic lines. On this walk you'll climb from Frederick the Great's rococo pleasure palace at Sanssouci, crowned above six sun-drenched vineyard terraces, into a baroque old town of triumphal gates, gilded town halls, and a great domed church. You'll wander the red-brick lanes of the Dutch Quarter, stand before world-class art at the Museum Barberini, and follow history to Cecilienhof, where Truman, Stalin, and Churchill carved up the postwar world in 1945. The journey ends at the Glienicke Bridge, the legendary 'Bridge of Spies,' where captured agents once crossed between East and West. Palaces, gardens, and espionage await.
